Abstract
This article focuses on some aspects of the
layout in Internet Explorer 5.0 for Windows. This old browser was very popular among the Windows 98 and Windows 98
Second Edition users. Nowadays there are about 80 millions people that are still using these obsolete operating systems, so
this article is not so weird as it could look. I have to confess that I still have at home a pc with Windows 98 SE and
Internet Explorer 5.0 (a total wreck with 64Mb Ram). It still works fine, however. So here's another crazy reason for
this article.
This layout has some problems with Internet Explorer 5.
This is a tribute we pay to its rendering inconsistencies, and that's a good reason to update our browser. Why update? Basically,
also for problems related to security bugs found only in Internet Explorer 5 (and later also in Internet Explorer 6).
Think about it, that's a huge security risk. Another reason lies in the particular background of Internet Explorer 5, that was developed
in 1998/99, when the Web was simpler than now. Now the Web is a parallel universe that's moving faster and faster towards the future.
The Web is moving even faster than Internet Explorer 5, that simply is too slow and obsolete to develop itself together with the whole
technology of the WWW. So, update!
